There's a lot that goes into growing a brand. But so much of it boils down to the way you show up. It's pretty simple when you think about it. But it can be a hard thing to take action around, because there's an energy shift that needs to happen.
The Pitfall of Service Provider Energy
In the creative business space, a lot of people are showing up with what I call “Service Provider Energy.”
Someone who has this energy is focused on positioning themselves as an expert in their particular area of service, but they're only serving up information. Say they are a brand designer, all of their content is dedicated to factual topics around this:
- Carousels like “5 Reasons to invest in brand design" that list facts you could easily Google.
- Photos of logo mock-ups without any context about the client or the transformation.
- Listing out their services like a menu of deliverables - “Here's what you get. Hire me!"
And this might work to bring in clients for awhile. But what happens is you become codependent on your next booking. The ups and downs of your business mirror the ups and downs of your energy. And you've created something that no longer feels fun to show up for. So you don't. And the cycle continues.
Transforming with A.R.T. Messaging Framework
One thing that has helped me transform my client is my A.R.T. Messaging Framework. I teach this in my workshops and to my intensive clients. And today, I'm giving it to you to try it out!
The A.R.T. Messaging Framework makes it really easy to shift from Service Provider Energy to Brand Energy.
Whenever you post something promotional, whether it's in stories, on your feed, in your newsletter, use this framework and see the energy shift happen in real time.
A - Anchor into desire. What is it that your clients really want? Keep asking “why” until you get to the true desire.
R - Relate it to a feeling / block your ideal client might be experiencing. What are the underlying feelings of that desire? What’s standing in their way of being there?
T - Tie it in to your promise. What transformation will happen when a client interacts with you?
Example of A.R.T. in Action
For example, your top line in your business might say something like:
WE HELP SMALL BUSINESSES GROW THEIR AUDIENCE THROUGH STAND-OUT DESIGN.
Using the A.R.T. Framework, you can rework it to really speak to the desires and pain points of your ideal clients
Like this:
YOU ARE NOT MEANT TO BE STUCK IN THE WEEDS. IT’S TIME TO LET GO SO YOU CAN GROW. LET US CULTIVATE A CREATIVE ECOSYSTEM THAT BRINGS YOUR BEES BUZZING.
Call me Da Vinci, because this framework is the Mona Lisa of Messaging. The compound effect of you using it will transform the way you show up on social.
